Lancaster, PA - Godfrey Bethea was born in Brooklyn, New York and experienced street life very early in his childhood, around five and six years of age. Life in the streets has caused a great imprint in his mind and an awesome impact on his way of thinking. This tremendous awareness in Godfrey's youth gave him new meaning to the word imprint.
A few years later, at the age of nine the Bethea family, comprised of nine children plus his mother and father, moved to a country town in Pennsylvania, called Lancaster. Godfrey's godfather called it the hilly country. His family consisted of six boys and three girls and for the family this was a traumatic, overwhelming, and completely over the edge culture shock. It was devastating to say the least. Bewildered, frustrated, and confused, the only thing that kept Godfrey's sanity was his strong desire to return to New York as soon as he finished school in Pennsylvania. To him, returning to Brooklyn, New York was his motivation, and that desire to return was his hope for many days to come.
Godfrey Bethea, Sr. came up through the school of hard knocks with a few mental challenges, but would not let his challenges stop or hold him back from receiving and working in the real world. Now at the age of 59, he has put together a book of challenges and accomplishments showing all men, especially men of color, that there are no handicaps or challenges that can literally stop them.
Bethea shares in his book that these challenges may slow them down a little, but through strength and determination everyone can push forward toward any and every goal that they have set for themselves if they keep their eyes on the prize, their focus on the goal and their steps moving forward.
